TOPIC: Sustaining Adult Cohort Studies Over Time: Refresh Samples in Germany and Brazil

TALK 1: NEPS Adult Survey Renewal: Enhancing Research on Education, Labor Market, and Social Change
Presenter: Dr. Markus Nester, The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi), Germany
About: The NEPS adult cohort will be renewed from 2025 to counter attrition and aging, ensuring sufficient sample sizes for life-course and cohort analyses. This involves online recruitment, adaptive incentives, periodic refreshing of younger participants, and new design elements such as extended panel spacing, more frequent competence assessments, and a new knowledge test to strengthen research on education, labor market transitions, and societal change.

TALK 2: Como Vai? Study: An Older Adults Cohort in Southern Brazil
Presenter: Prof. Flavio Demarco, University of Pelotas, Brazil
About: This presentation will focus on the methodology and main findings of a longitudinal study on aging on Southern Brazil, and discuss the next steps and challenges of the study.

Session convenors:
Anika Schenck-Fontaine and Thais Martins da Silva (Session Chair)
Co-ordinators of the SLLS Cohort Network
